I  SWEAR DOLL CHATEAU MAKES SOME OF THE MOST INTERESTING PIECES!!!

Mar 29

So this is actually thursday nights sculpt. The entire doll took me about 5hrs to sculpt from start to finish not including the final tweaking and sanding, haven’t done that yet. Also not including the hands and feet because i posted those a few days ago… i think. Anyway Its the sculpt of a doll i drew a while ago.

I love its nose and lips :D MY FAVE PARTS!!!

Going to shorten the torso cause it makes the arms look funky. Heck i might just re-sculpt it. Also need to fix its feet cause when they are pointed things look way too flat. An easy fix though. Trying to sculpt as much as possible and just get better at making things look as aesthetically pleasing as my prototype sketches.

Test strung with elastic thread so i cant test its pose-ability just yet.

Yeah… this was fun. I love tiny dolls.

Taking my time with these.  Slowly fixing my symmetry problem. I dont know why but i feel like its important for me to take things slow… i dont know whatev… Anyway finished 1 bag of la doll clay on both body sculpts which i have decided to code name Kobo and Naira. Kobo, currently pictured is very… fragile in terms of its build and Naira is more robust :D Yess they are named after Nigerian currency. Kobo is the equivalent of pennies and Naira are actual bills. Anyway :D i’ve been wanting to use those names for a minute now but i couldn’t come up with a sculpt i like.
I once saw a picture an unoa doll in progress where they had cut the doll in half straight down the middle i think as a way to check if both parts were symmetrical… not sure. LOL i think if i’m feeling rave after these 2 are completed i might try something like that. but then again maybe i’m better off just using a mirror… we’ll see.

Playing around with some thangz!!! I do not know how many times i’ve said i’m going to simplify my sculpt to make things easier for me but this is one of those times. These aren’t the main sculpt i’m working on but i really want to try something here. I find that having lots of torso bits help with articulation but at the end of the day things end up looking funky to me. I’ve seen other doll artists pull off having multiple torso parts without their doll looking choppy but mine almost always look off to me. Anyways i want to take a step back and mess around with 2 part torsos for a bit. Just to see whats what.
I might be using premier air dry clay for this project. Not entirely sure yet. I now have some super sculpey but i only use that when i’m sure about what i’m doing. or maybe i’ll use a mix of both premier air dry clay and sculpey. For different bits of course… cant mix the 2 together. Is premier the same a la doll? Always wondered about that.

LOL so this happened accidentally but i really love the head to body ratio of this doll. This head actually belongs to an older sculpt so i will probably sculpt a new head or modify this one cause its way too heavy for the body thighs are almost complete but the lower legs need some beefing up, i also need to do something to its feet but yeah i love how its going. She currently fragile waist so i have to be creative with the way i string it. Anyway i love where this is going. Also in the process of tweaking my piglet sculpt. Don’t have enough sculpey for my main sculpt so i’m just playing around with small things till i can afford some.

Trying to learn how to sculpt digitally in ZBrush. Its very interesting so far. I think i’m going to maybe make some bases that i can complete with apoxie sculpt. This is what i’ve tried so far. LOL i cant sculpt hands and feet digitally yet but i think this is pretty good for my first try.

      PROS

  • NO CLEAN UP
  • AWESOME  SYMMETRY
  • CLEANER STRAIGHTER LINES,JOINTS, SOCKETS E.T.C

     CONS

  • CANT TEST STRING WHILE I SCULPT
  • RAPID PROTOTYPING/ PRINTING CAN BE EXPENSIVE SOMETIMES
  • SOMETIMES SCULPTS CAN LOOK TOO MECHANICAL

Anyways i’m still experimenting so well see.

So finally completed this little guy. I hate his lips though so i might change that a bit. The sculpey cracked a bit in some areas but it isn’t something i cant fix. After making junk casts i’m going to see about doing something to its feet cause it cant seem to stand on its own at the moment. LOL his head is too big/heavy or something so i need to balance  things out better.
He takes 6mm and 1mm elastic cord. :D and i’ve decided to call him Remington.

Tomorrow is the 20th my break from sculpting and such is over. Though i have been tinkering with a little clay here and there. Anyways :D before i had my son i started this art doll sculpt.
Its ball jointed. Because the waist/ upper torso is so thin the arms/head and its legs are going to be strung separately. Test strung it today and it looks like i’m on the right track so far.
Need to shave some bits from the right side, sand then prime it. In the process of sculpting its head, legs, lower arms and hands. Might break the torso into 2 parts for better pose-ability.
So far so good though.

Haven’t posted anything personal in a while. Still working on this doll. Haven’t done any sanding at all but it seems to be coming along. The sketch i did was 16 inches but it seems like she might end up being about 12 and a half inches.
I need to beef up her legs and sculpt some feet but other than that things are looking pretty good. I’m thinking about re-sculpting the legs all together cause i’m starting to not like em as much but at the moment i’m not sure about what to do next.
She currently has single joints in her elbows and knees but I still want double joints lol i don’t think i’ll be happy until i make em so i guess its time to start sketching out designs.
Cant tell if her head is too big either.  i guess i wont know until shes completed.
