Pre order Status

Decided to cancel pre-orders till i get the resin samples. I think it’ll be better opening pre-orders with a finished product anyway.

Update

:D After 1 month of waiting i finally heard back from the factory. Actually the wait wasn’t bad at all. Close to the end i was a bit worried because i started thinking maybe i sent it to the wrong adress :D but everything turned out ok in the end.

I was originally going to do pre-orders via kickstarter but after giving it some thought i changed my mind and decided to go ahead and create a site for this doll (and hopefully future projects). I think if i was trying to get a doll through kickstarter and the project doesn’t get funded it would bother me more than a little bit because after paying for something i expect to receive my item.

I’m using the same company that casts Kaye wiggs dolls so the white skin, light tan skin and dark tan skin colors pictured below will be an exact match to the resin colors i chose. I believe the light tan resin is the doll right next to the dark tan resin.

I still need at least 10 pre-orders to make this happen (including me making 11). The pre order period starts now and ends on June 10th. I’ve currently decided on 3 colors:

Polar (white skin) 18pc

Grisly (dark tan) 18pc for the pre order

Albino Grisly (light tan) 8pc (I only ordered 10 dolls in this color. I ordered 20ea of the other colors).

As a pre-order incentive i dropped the price of each doll to $200 + $30sh as opposed to $250 + $30sh which will be the regular price.

Scan from the book Pop Sculpture. This page talks about ball joints in relation to action figures :D i think it can be applied to BJD sculpting too so i’m sharing. Again sorry for the crappy scan.

First test stringing. lol you can see where the sculpey chipped around the lower arms/elbows the thighs are doing something weird too. The legs keep wanting to spread. Nothing i cant fix though. I kinda want to use the same hand sculpt from the bear because i like that size lol XD but i dont have it on hand anymore and i cant remember the exact size.

Still waiting for my bear sculpt to arrive at the manufacturers. Its only been 9 days lol and i hear that sometimes it can take a month but its so hard to be patient lol i wish it was there now so i know it isn’t floating in limbo somewhere.

Anyway i started a few new sculpts as a way to cope with waiting .

Heres a tiny i started. Its slightly larger (taller) than the bear. In all honesty when i started this i was thinking about Christopher Robins. lol of course the bear is a bit too big to be Winnie the pooh but i still want to try a christopher and pooh custom.

I really enjoy sculpting torsos too bad thats not all it takes to make dolls.

Having way too much fun playing with this I named this sculpt Toyy significant other. lol i’ve chipped and repaired the sculpey like 50 billion times now. Sculpey is sooooooo brittle!!! Cant wait to have this in resin so i dont have to worry about breaking anything. Anyway This is the last time i’m going to test string this cause i plan to send it off for finishing (mostly sanding, symmetry and smoothing out the joints) on monday.
It needs stoppers in the torso and a little shaved off the bottom of its feet to make them more… similar i guess. Thats about all that needs to be done.
So after giving this some serious thought and consideration i decided to run a pre-order on this through kickstarter. Since i’m shipping this out to the manufacturer on monday i figure i’ll wait until it gets there then open a kick starter page for it. I need at least 10 pre-orders on this (including me making 11) to make this happen. i cant think of any other solution at the momment. I figured kickstarter would be perfect because If i’m not able to get all the pre-orders and the kick starter page is unsuccessful then everyone gets their money back without any money really exchanging hands. No harm done and i will look for another way to make this happen. :D though i really hope it works. I’ve currently decided on 3 colors:

:D It really makes me happy that people find this sculpt interesting lol makes me feel less crazy when i catch myself playing with this prototype.

LOL ignore my janky fingernails when i grow them out and try to sculpt something i end up with crescent shapes everywhere so i ended up getting rid of them… the things i do for art.

Anyway :D measured it today when i test strung it and its approximately 13cm (5 inches). Its head is approximately 12cm sans its ears and it takes 8mm eyes. Currently working on the tail and balancing parts.Was originally going to make its tail detachable and maybe stick it on with a magnet but i know i’ll end up loosing it so i just sculpted it on. Still needs a lot of sanding and tweaking, practically done though.

Still waiting on the casting company. Weiju i believe. They work with Jpop dolls though so maybe they’re busy.

Still needs quite a bit of sanding, tweaking lol and a tail but this is practically done. I ended up making a lot of changes during the sculpting phase (Especially with its face) and it doesn’t look like the drawing :D but i love love LOVE how this came out. :D i’m planing on getting this professionally cast. :( the minimum order is 50 though and these things can be quite expensive. I was thinking about maybe doing a pre- order type thingy but i dont know. Maybe if i can find people who are as interested and excited about this doll as i am then it’ll be possible.
This is one of three designs i dreamt up one day. Theres this bear, an albino turtle and a mystery animal at the moment. The third isn’t a mystery to me :D im just holding off on sharing it until i know for a fact that i can actually sculpt it. LOL drawing is one thing but translating things into 3D sculpts can be an ass sometimes.
i plan to keep 5 of em anyway so i guess it isn’t so bad. LMAO but then if no one is interested i’ll have 45 dolls that wont have a home :(. Ah well i really want this in resin so i wont give up yet. In terms of colors i’m thinking it would be nice to get this in white, light tan, dark tan and black. the more i think of the black cast the more the idea of doing a reverse panda custom appeals to me :D SO EXCITED!!!
